Scuba Diving
Favorite Dive Sites — There are many dive sites in Monterey and Carmel, and I've dove only a handful. Eventually I want to experience all, but so far I do have my favorites. Just because a specific site is not listed as one of my favorites and frequent dive spots, doesn't mean it isn't a great place to dive.
Dive Logs — We log our dives in the appropriate log book, listing bottom time, water temperature, visibility, depth and dive time. But there is little room for the really interesting aspects of the dive in those books. I like to detail particularly fun or interesting dives in greater detail and share them with other divers and friends and family on the Internet. I've posted some of my favorites here.
My Underwater Photography — Underwater photography is fun, tricky, challenging, expensive, and often impossible. It's very different from land photography because water depth affects color, surge moves the photographer and sometimes the subject all over the place, and plankton, algae, and particulates cause backscatter in photos. But when it works well, it is so worth it, and it's always fun trying to get great shots.
Web Sites & Groups — Since communicating underwater is limited to a small library of hand signals, there are many online groups and sites where divers can talk diving. In addition, there are a lot of dive club and shops available where divers can meet, buddy up, or just talk about diving.
