Technical Writing
I started writing about technical topics, such as computing, for general magazines. After I learned web programming and got a job with Sun Microsystems, I decided I wanted to write for them too. But to do that I had to learn Java programming. So, in my spare time, I taught myself Java, and was later promoted to technical writer.
Much of what I've written has been tutorials, teaching how to programming using the Java platform. I've also written:
- Procedures
- Company Overviews
- Software Overviews
- Marketing Materials
I've worked in both Unix and Windows environments, and used an assortment of software for writing and formatting documentation, such as Word, StarOffice, Framemaker, and InDesign. For illustrations and diagrams I generally use Photoshop or InDesign, but I also have used Illustrator on occasion as well. I enjoy learning software, and writing about it is an extra bonus.
