Dana Nourie Digital Imagery

Photography comes in many forms and types. I shoot everything from the scenic shores of Carmel to the underwater inhabitants of the kelp forest, onto beautiful sunsets, oak studded rolling hills, and towering redwood forests. In addition, I enjoy taking pictures in the city, at entertainment parks, and wherever there is something interesting to behold. These days I'm combining my photographic skills with my journalistic experience to sell articles and essays in addition to selling photos to stock agencies. See my new Dana Nourie Digital Imagery website.

My Favorite Photography Books

Landscapes and Scenic — Land photography offers challenges that differ from underwater photography. The biggest problem is seeing that special viewpoint, so that one photo doesn't look like every other photo. The joys of scenic photography are that nature reveals surreal colors, patterns, and designs that carry beauty and wonder, sometimes awe. Even buildings can be beautiful.

Under water — I literally started in the sea and migrated onto land with photography. Shooting nudibranchs, kelp fish, anemones, sea stars, jellies, and the many types of kelp and algae with a camera offers challenge and satisfaction. In addition, underwater photography allows me extend dives and lock them in colorful, digital memory.

Travel — Traveling provides a great means of finding natural beauty, colorful and unusual landscape, animals in the natural habitat, and people of different cultures. I'm fortunate to live in California where there is not shortage of wonderful photographic subjects, but it's great to travel to other states, places that are different from what I'm used to.

Animals & Wildlife— Animals and wildlife are fascinating to watch and a challenge to photograph. Many animals are skittish, fearful of people, so getting close enough for snapping photos isn't always easy. In addition, most animals are constantly moving, which makes them more fun to watch and harder to photograph.
